The Museum of Wisconsin Art owns two principal collections: the Carl von Marr collection
and the Early Wisconsin Regional Art collection. The former was the collection upon
which the museum was founded in 1961 and features the work of Milwaukee-born, German-educated
artist Carl von Marr; the Early Wisconsin collection was unveiled in 1998 upon Wisconsin’s
sesquicentennial.
Both of these collections are permanently displayed and changes to the galleries
are made annually. There are two galleries devoted to Marr on our first floor and
four to Wisconsin art on the lower level of the museum.
