Exclusively Yours Feature
In January 2007, just as the Museum was on the cusp of changing its name from the
West Bend Art Museum to the Museum of Wisconsin Art, Judy Jepson of Exclusively
Yours magazine wrote a lavishly illustrated article chronicling the development
of the museum. The narrative wonderfully recounts our past and brings the reader
up to date on where we were in January 2007 - taking a major step forward in becoming
the Museum of Wisconsin Art. Click here to read the full article as a pdf.

The Flagellants returns to Munich!
On Tuesday, February 12th, the MWA happily received long-awaited news: The Flagellents by Carl von Marr was definitely going home to Munich.
That city's Haus der Kunst is mounting an exhibition to celebrate the 200th
anniversary of the Academy of Fine Arts Munich and curator Dr. Leon Krempel was
very anxious to have Marr's masterpiece included. After complex negotiations
with the painting's owners, the City of Milwaukee, and those involved with the
logistics of getting the 14' x 23' canvas to Germany, an agreement was finally
reached. Throughout the week of April 14 come to museum to watch riggers,
conservators and staff delicately remove this enormous canvas and prepare it for
shipment. Shipping to Munich in mid May, the Haus der Kunst exhibition opens May
30th and closes August 31st. The Flagellents will not only be exhibit for
the duration of the show, but will remain there in storage until the new MWA
facility is built. Don't miss your last opportunity to see this superb painting
before it goes home for two years!
OnMilwaukee review of MWA
Slowly but surely, the word is getting out on the MWA. Not just on the fact that
its collections and exhibitions are hidden gems in the state's artistic firmament,
but that its future plans to transform itself into a bold, new facility appropriate
to showcase Wisconsin's rich art history is taking shape. Read Andy Tarnoff, Publisher
of OnMilwaukee.com's review of what he saw, and felt, when he made the short trip
to West Bend.
