Biographical Brief

Akeley is known as the Father of Modern Taxidermy and a pioneer in lifelike museum habitat dioramas, accomplished sculptor, inventor of the Akeley motion picture camera design for ease and mobility in field work. In 1896 Akeley moved to Milwaukee and took a job at the Milwaukee Public Museum where he brought the museum diorama into its maturity. Muskrat Diorama exhibit at Milwaukee Public Museum is preserved and credited to Akeley.
