1975, graduate University of Wisconsin-Madison, School of Nursing
Independent art study at University of Wisconsin-Madison with Carol Pylant and Richard Long.
Worked with Tom Sobota, Fort Atkinson, WI

2012, Languages Acquired and Intuitive Works by John Steines a retrospective consisting of oil paintings, ceramic works and woven bark sculptures; Art collector, Mario Ostrowski said "Languages Acquired and Intuitive Works by John Steines is a multi-colored/textured body of work that articulates a vision that is both spiritual and human". "John Steines' expressive artwork is an impressive, mature body of work" was described by John Fitzpatrick, past Director of  Supervision and Administration of the National Art Education Association.
