Biographical Brief

Joe attended the Cincinnati Art Academy (Eugene F. Rowe Scholarship Award), earned a Bachelor of Science (Art Education) degree at Milwaukee State Teacher’s College, and a Master of Science (Applied Art) degree from the University of Wisconsin – Madison.

He taught arts and crafts for 5 ½ years at Beaver Dam High School and arts and crafts for 30 years at West Allis Central High School; retiring in 1984 and pursuing his art in drawing, painting, and sculpture. 

Joe won numerous awards, including 1st Prize in painting at the 1960 Wisconsin State Fair. Over the years, he had numerous one-person exhibits in many different locations throughout the Midwest.  He also participated in many group shows throughout the country.  He regularly exhibited at art fairs in the Midwest.  His last major exhibit was a 67 year retrospective of his work at Carroll University.

Joe created a book of drawings that has not been published.

He has numerous works on display at Carroll University in the Otteson Theatre, Todd Wehr Memorial Library, and other locations throughout the campus.

Joe affected all he met and knew with a wry sense of humor and positively joyous outlook on life.  He continued to teach his entire life by encouraging creativity and having an open mind to all ideas.
