Criteria for Submitting New Artist Information
Any one of the following criteria must exist before the artist or subject is added to the Museum of Wisconsin Art Archives database/ files.

Artists who are born in Wisconsin and have made an impact on the WI art scene through exhibiting, teaching or WI art organization memberships.

WI artists listed as a member and exhibits with a major or statewide WI Art Organization such as WI Painters & Sculptors / Artists in all Media, League of Milwaukee Artists, WI Designer Crafts Council, WI Printmakers, WPA artists, WI Watercolor Society, Wisconsin Art Teachers, WI Regional Art Association, etc.

WI artists exhibiting in important juried exhibitions or solo exhibitions at a credible WI art museum or gallery or at a national level.

Art students 21 years or older, who studied at a WI Art School or University and intend to make a career in the visual arts.

Artists who immigrate to WI and work for an extended period of time in Wisconsin as a professional artist.

Artists with an important historical connection to the development of art in WI. Examples include: the early itinerant artists who recorded historical events from WI history and some artists who spent an extended period of time (one –two years) in WI to work on a major / historical piece of WI art (example, Panorama Artists).
Notes:
All entries to database require a written, published or electronic documentation
to start a file documenting any of the requirements above. Resumes, exhibition catalogs
/ brochures, published articles, web site print-outs all give credibility to an
artist’s status.
We have two categories of artists:
- Early WI Artists - born in 1930 or prior, are listed as Pre1950 artists
- Post 1950 Artists - born in 1931 or after, are listed as Post1950 artists
