    Families Doing Art

    Pee Wee Picassos

    Ages 3 – 5
    (one day class / 45 minutes)

    Session I - Clay: Saturday, June 4, 11: 00 -11:45 a.m.
    Session II - Printing & Stamping: Saturday, July 2, 11: 00 -11:45 a.m.
    Session III - Drawing & Painting: Saturday, August 6, 11: 00 -11:45 a.m.

    Spend some quality time with your toddler and let their creativity loose at the art museum!  Your little artist will explore the wonders of shape, line, texture, form and design while developing manual dexterity and project development. Limit of two children per adult.  Additional child is ½ price with a maximum of two children. Sign up for one class, or all—each session is unique!

    Garden Art

    Ages 4 and up

    The MWA Seasonal Workshops are a favorite tradition for many. Celebrate summer with a class of fun seasonal art-making activities to enjoy together with your family. Set your creativity free! This class is open to both members and nonmembers.

    Just For Kids

    Feats of Clay: Ceramics for Kids

    Ages 6 - 10
    Wednesdays, June 29 – August 3  
    6:30 – 8:00 p.m. (six sessions / 9 hours)

    Starting early from mud pies to sand castles, kids have a connection with clay.  We will explore shape, texture and form molded from earth.  This course will allow students to develop their connection to clay through exploration of various hand-building techniques.  Students will create and glaze finish ceramic work that is functional, sculptural or both.

    Growing van Goghs

    Ages 5 – 8
    (one day class / 1 hour)

    With the popularity of our Pee Wee Picasso classes we thought the next age group deserved their own fun art class.  Just like the Pee Wees, Growing van Goghs will explore different art mediums and projects in these one and a half hour classes.  Something new will be taught at each class.

    Painting & Drawing Workshop

    Session I: June 30 & July 1, Ages 5 – 8
    10:30 – 12:30 p.m. (two sessions / 4 hours)

    Session II: June 30 & July 1, Ages 9 – 13
    1:00 –3:00 p.m. (two sessions / 4 hours)

    Kids love to draw and paint and recreate new images out of their imagination. Once given an object to paint and draw, their hidden talent explodes as they explore untapped potential. In this class students will learn how to use different media and techniques to create one of a kind paintings and drawings. Each student will tackle compositional challenges, themes and be encouraged to develop their own style.

    Learning to Draw What You See

    (Class is FULL)
    Ages 8 - 13

    Tuesdays, June 21 – July 26 (no class July 5)
    3:00 – 4:30 p.m. (five sessions/ 7.5 hours)

    Give your child this unique opportunity to work with professional artist Eriks Johnson, and learn new techniques for expressing ideas on paper. Students will work with charcoal and graphite and be introduced to the techniques of perspective, value and line. A range of subjects will be drawn including still life and portraiture.

    Sculpture Workshop

    Ages 9-13
    Tuesday - Thursday, August 2 - 4
    12:00 – 2:00 p.m. (three sessions/ 6 hours)

    Dive into the world of 3D, using a variety of materials to create one-of-a-kind sculptures. Some projects include: cubist portrait sculptures and watercolor texture casts with plaster.

    Let's Draw to Paint

    Ages 11 – 13                                                 
    Wednesdays, June 22 – July 27
    10:00 – 12:00 Noon (six sessions/ 12 hours)

    Working in the museum galleries, students will learn drawing techniques using the MWA’s collections as visual resources. Students will create preliminary drawings and learn how to transfer this work to canvas and complete a painting.

    Ceramic DinnerWare

    Ages 6 -10
    Wednesdays, August 10 – August 24
    1:00 – 2:30 p.m. (three sessions/ 4.5 hours)

    Come have fun with the art of clay.  Students will create their own designs and make a unique serving ware to hold their favorite food.

    Crazy Kooky Creatures

    Ages 8 -12
    Fridays, July 29 – August 19
    1:00 – 2:30 p.m. (four sessions/ 6 hours)

    Learn how to sew by hand while making some crazy fun animals from recycled fabrics.  Students will learn basic hand sewing techniques while designing their own crazy stuffed creatures.

    Art Explorers Camp

    Tuesday – Friday, July 19 – 22 (four sessions/ 8 hours)

    Session I: 10:00 am – 12:00 Noon, Ages 5 – 8
    Session II: 12:30 – 2:30 pm, Ages 9 – 13

    Come explore the world of art! Join this fun, inspirational class where students explore different artistic techniques each session.  This class is for the child who loves getting their hands and creativity into everything! Students will explore different techniques and media from plaster to printmaking and more.

    Amazing Art Projects

    Ages 9 – 13
    Monday – Friday, August 8 - 12
    10:30 a.m. – 12:00 Noon (five sessions/ 7.5 hours)

    In this class students will be exposed to several contemporary art making strategies from installation to Abstract Expressionism. Students will build 3-D constructions, sculptures and mobiles and fantastic creatures.

    Clay Camp

    Ages 5-8

    A fun and exploratory clay class focusing on hand-building techniques including pinch pots, coils, slab surface decoration and exploratory sculpting.  Designed to give the student the tactile experience of working with clay while creating one-of-a-kind pieces!

    Clay Camps for Middle Schoolers

    New and experienced middle school-aged artists are invited to learn the basics of making pottery—including clay preparation, centering, throwing, trimming and glazing. Learn to form several basic shapes and the fundamentals of creating pottery.

    Age 14 - Adult

    Portrait Painting

    Wednesdays, June 15 – July 201:00 – 3:00 p.m. (six sessions / 12 hours)

    Students will work from a live clothed model on an extended pose. Students will learn drawing skills to create a likeness of the sitter and learn how to apply the working material by using various drawing tools. The class is open to the beginner as well as the advanced artist. A materials list will be mailed with class confirmation.

    Observational Painting with Acrylics

    Mondays, June 20 – August 1 ( no class July 4)       
    3:30 – 5:30 p.m. (six sessions / 12 hours)

    Students will strengthen their understanding of color mixing and theory while improving their skills in painting the three dimensional world and expanding their ability to manipulate acrylic paint. Classroom discussion will explore the creation of composition, the work of significant artists, as well as art theory. All skill levels welcome.     Observational Drawing (CANCELLED)

    Learn about perspective, foreshortening, and the creation of space as well as how to respond to line quality, light and dark, and the structure of subject matter and observed phenomena. Students will become confident using several different types of material for expressive and
    descriptive drawing purposes. All skill levels welcome. A materials list will be mailed with class confirmation.

    Throwing Techniques: Altering Wheel-Thrown Work

    (Class is FULL)
    Mondays, July 18 – August 8
    6:00 – 8:00 p.m. (four sessions/ 8 hours)

    This is a great class for students who are tired of everything looking round when they take it off the wheel.  Learn such techniques as making square forms, darting, and adding forms on top of one another.  Students should have some prior experience with the wheel.

    MWA Art Faculty

    REBECCA GROVER is a graduate of UW-Milwaukee with B.F.A.’s in both Art Education and Painting and Drawing.

    ERIKS JOHNSON received his BFA from the Art Institute of Chicago and MFA from University of Wisconsin, Milwaukee. He also teaches in various capacities at Milwaukee Institute of Art and Design, Milwaukee Art Museum, Sharon Wilson Arts Center, and Artists Working in Education.

    TIFFANY KNOPOW received her BFA in Printmaking from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and her MFA from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. Knopow has an active exhibition record including shows in the United States and South America. She was one of UW-Milwaukee's nominees for the 2007 National Dedalus Foundation Master of Fine Arts Fellowship and received a Layton Fellowship from UW-Milwaukee in 2008.

    ERIN PAASCH recently received her BFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. She also teaches at the Cedarburg Cultural Center.

    STEVE OHLRICH is an artist who received training in Classical Realism at The School of Representational Art in Chicago. His work includes realistic figurative works, portraits, still life and creative compositions. He is an instructor at The School of Representational Art, Kewaunee Academy of Fine Arts, and also teaches at public art centers and in the homes of individual art students.

    JOHN PRITCHARD holds a MFA in ceramics from Kansas State University. He also studied clay at Lake Placid (N.Y.) School for Music, Drama and Art.

    RON SACHSE is a retired art educator and a favorite MWA instructor among students.

    ANDEE WARREN received her BA from the University of Southern Maine. She is the proprietor of Cedarburg Pottery.
